La Biblioteca de Alejandría tiene una significación fundamental en la historia, porque marcó el punto fronterizo entre un concepto de biblioteca anterior y el que determinará el desenvolvimiento posterior de las bibliotecas. A partir de ella se dio la división entre la práctica de la lectura en la Grecia Clásica y la del Helenismo que será característica de la posterior civilización occidental. La Biblioteca tenía una unidad interactuante con el Museo, primer centro investigación, en aquella se hacía acopio del saber universal mientras que en éste se producía el conocimiento: entre una y otra se profundizó y reorientó el surco de la lectura en el mundo antiguo.

The Library of Alexandria implies a fundamental meaning in history because it marks the frontier between the former concept of library and that one which will determine the future development for all of them. With it begins the division between the practice of lecture prevailing in Classic Greece and that of Hellenism, which will characterize the later western civilization. The Library held an interacting unity with the Museum, first research center, and gathered universal learning, while the Museum was in charge of producing knowledge. Both of them deepened and reoriented the lecture\2019s furrow in the Ancient World.
