Se aborda la problemática sobre la necesidad del dominio de lenguas extranjeras en el proceso de generación-uso de la información científica, como requisito para alcanzar las exigencias de impacto y visibilidad del producto informativo generado, asi como el dilema ante el cual se presentan los bibliotecólogos o especialistas en información, en este cambio de siglo, en el desempeño de sus funciones al rescatar y formentar la cultura a la que representan y el manejo y difusión de fuentes y sistemas de información generados en lenguas extranjeras. Se señala el poco conocimiento que se tiene sobre los métodos para medir el uso que los autores hacen de lenguas extranjeras en este proceso. Se emplea un modelo matemático en un estudio bibliométrico para identificar tal comportamiento a través del análisis de un flujo de información documental publicado en siete de las principales revistas científicas que en ciencias bibliotecológicas y de la información se han editado en hispanoamérica en los últimos doce años. |

The need to master foreign languages in order to generate and use scientific information as a prerequisite to achieving visibility and impact, and the dilemma for librarians and information professionals caused by this need\2013as they carry out their task of rescuing and disseminating cultural contents as well as their management and handling of sources and systems of information presented in foreign languages\2013 are approached in this paper. Emphasis is made on the dearth of knowledge about the measurement methods needed to gauge the use authors make of foreign language sources in this process. A mathematical model is used in this bibliometric study to identify this behavior through an analysis of the flow of documentation for works published in seven of the leading scientific magazines containing Library Science and Information Theory articles that have been published in Latin America over that last twelve years. |
